RIS Convention

Volunteers managed a booth at the RIS Convention on Memorial Weekend (May 29-31) in Long Beach, CA. We displayed jewelry items made by the children at the center as well as other crafts from Afghanistan, including beautiful dresses, shawls, scarves, and belts. Many people also donated to the school and signed up for our mailing list. Overall, the event was a success, where we raised over $1500 for the children at the center. In combination with the proceeds from the jewelry sale made at an elementary school in the Bay Area, we have approximately $1700 for hearing aids for some of our partially deaf students.
We have partnered with an organization called BARAN (www.baran.af) to do hearing tests for the children. Hearing aids are very expensive in the U.S. ranging from $1000 to $8000. They are much cheaper in Afghanistan (about $100 ), but the quality is not as good. So if you know anyone who can either donate money or hearing aids for the children at our center, please let us know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
